The Two Mikes

The Two Mikes
Ever wanted to talk with someone about a book you just read? You could just join a book group and talk about it, drink a little, veer off on tangents, work back around to the book again, and finally wrap it up by picking the next book.

But what happens when the book you just read is about about hungry zombies or a haunted house, and your Eat, Pray, Love–reading friends aren’t really into reading it, much less discussing its finer points? That’s what we’re here for. We Two Mikes will be your virtual book group for discussing new and interesting and old and half-forgotten horror books.

If you want to follow along with us, look at the next forbidden book on the table and start reading.

Episode 109: Charles Stross's The Atrocity Archives

Finishing our Lovecrafian trilogy with Charles Stross's Lovecraftian espionage thriller, the Mikes explore the eldritch horror of office bureaucracy, the limits of fictionalizing the holocaust, and whether Lovecraftian things are even scary anymore.

It's Cocktail Time!

The Hand of Glory
  • In 5 (or more) shot glasses pour yellow Chartreuse almost to the top
  • Then into a teaspoon pour 151 proof rum and float a bit onto the shot
  • Carefully ignite the rum (keep hair away from the flame!)
  • Turn off lights and enjoy the glow for a bit.
  • Drink and enjoy.

closing music: "Hand of Glory" by Jimmie Silva and the Empty Set

Recommend you guys follow up with the rest of the Laundry Series...

The William Sloane books are a great choice - although the 'cosmic horror' referenced is only tenuously connected to that of Lovecraft.

Arcane trivia - THE EDGE OF RUNNING WATER was adapted (very loosely) to film under the title THE DEVIL COMMANDS, with Boris Karloff.
